William Shakespeare klasszikus tragédiája ezúttal a National Theatre rég várt előadásában elevenedik meg, a főszerepben pedig a Kódjátszmából, vagy épp az Urániában is nagy sikerrel játszott Frankenstein című előadásból is ismert Benedict Cumberbutch-t láthatjuk.
Amint egy ország a közelgő háborúra fegyverkezik, ezel egy időben egy család darabokra hullik. Hamlet apja halálát kényszerül megbosszulni, de a feladat megbénítja, s ebben az elkeserítően behatárolt helyzetben növekvő indulata, lázadása nem csupán épelméjűségét, de az ország jövőjét is veszélybe sodorja.
