“The Russians are already in the larder…” sentence have become adage after the presentation of the film based on the novel in 1965. Finally it could be laughed at something, which was not funny. The novel of Imre Dobozy and the film – with actors like Imre Sinkovits, Tamás Major, Iván Darvas and László Márkus – is about finding chances in impossible situations and about being amused at irrational things.

This is a story of a man-in-the-street in a big war, who tries to avoid the execution, to find a larder, to take advantage of the possibilities of escape.
According to the story, at the end of WW II corporal Molnár, who has got his wits about him, wants to escape from the chaos of the German retreat safe and sound together with some profit. So he takes the cash of the regiment and takes cover in an abandoned castle. The noble residence appears to be a safe terrain as only Albert, the dignified valet lives there. But the series of unexpected events is just starts when “the Russians are already in the larder.”
