A goal of the political leadership of Czechoslovakia, reconstituted with Soviet backing in 1945, was to foster a common patriotic spirit. The first Czechoslovak colour film, Warriors of Faith, was the beginning of a wave of historical adaptations that culminated in Otakar Vávra’s Hussite Trilogy. The execution of Jan Huss (1415) was followed by peasant rebellions. After Žižka, then the decisive defeat at the Battle of Lipany (1434) and the death of Prokop the Great, Jan Roháč was left alone to continue the good fight. Withdrawing to Sion Castle with his remaining troops, the besieged valiant warrior finally fell, but his struggle was not in vain...
