Czech Autumn / Limbo (CZ/SK/UA)

Featuring:
Pavel Hrubý - soprano saxophone, bass clarinet
Petr Kalfus - tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone
Taras Voloshchuk - double bass
Dušan Černák - drums

The band is straddling several genres, basically being above them. The unusually busy quartet creates a universal music collage on a jazz basis. Improvisation, composition, communication and numerous ethnic sounds intersect significantly throughout the band's existence without any barriers that would limit the musicians' expression. The band is not interested in trends, they go their own way with a clear and distinct opinion. Their main inspiration in jazz history is the legendary band Art Ensemble Of Chicago. Their second CD Kalimbo (Amplion Records 2007) was nominated by the Academy of Popular Music (Angel) for the album of the year 2008 in the Jazz and Blues category. In 2014, the band celebrated 10 years of existence. The documentary LIMBO 2004–2014 was shot for this anniversary. The group's leader, saxophonist Pavel Hrubý, was nominated for the prestigious Anděl 2015 award in the Jazz Blues category for his solo album Between The Lines (Amplion Records 2014). Double bassist Taras Vološčuk is an occasional teammate of the world-famous American pop singer Suzanne Vega when she performs in Central Europe.
