She was born in New York, brought up in Southern India and has also lived in Valencia and California. Her first record, a more traditional release, came out in 2018, after which she spent six years refining her unique sound. Her work came to fruition in 2024, when she put out two albums: one on the label owned by Shabaka Hutchings, a key figure on the British contemporary jazz scene who also produced the record, and the other under the label of, and with help from, Nils Frahm. Building on the spiritual and musical legacy of Alice Coltrane, ganavya stole the show at the first Sault concert in England, and has also performed with Floating Points, Esperanza Spalding, Anoushka Shankar and Jacob Collier. Those in attendance will be witnesses to the first Hungarian concert by an artist we are sure to hear a lot more about.
