The extremely witty ‘Divertimento in G Major’, which features many diverse colours and tones, is a masterpiece by Haydn, who was barely twenty years old when he composed the piece. This work truly presents a vision of the coming era: an era whose most brilliant piece is Mozart’s ‘Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter”’.
The soloist of this evening is one of the most significant Hungarian interpreters of Mozart’s lifework Dezső Ránki. It is noteworthy that Mozart’s ‘Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major (K 488)’ is rarely performed from the composer’s rich oeuvre of piano concertos, but peculiarly the same piece was performed just over four decades ago, in November 1985, by the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi.
