The title role of the poet escaping into alcohol goes to today's top French tenor, Benjamin Bernheim, with Erin Morley, Pretty Yende and Clémentine Margaine portraying Hoffmann's loves. Playing not one, but four demonic figures in this performance conducted by Marco Armiliato is bass-baritone Christian Van Horn.
