ROMANCE. CAVALCADE OF CLASSICAL MUSIC.

In April, the chamber music series of the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra continues with the following pieces: works for violin and piano by Dvořák and Bartók, a cello and piano transcription of Piazzolla’s ‘Tango’, Martinů’s ‘Piano Trios’ and Zoltán Kovács’ ‘Quintet’. Dvořák’s Romantic pieces were originally written for two violins and viola, but for some reason the composer was dissatisfied with these pieces and he immediately reworked them for violin and piano, and completely neglected the idea of a trio version of the works. In fact, the manuscripts of these pieces were lost until 1938. “These works are small miniatures. But we must bear in mind that Beethoven and Schumann could also express themselves quite well, sometimes using very simple ways of expression,” Dvořák wrote to a close friend.
