It is difficult to imagine a more idyllic beginning to a musical work than that of Jean Cras’ quintet for flute, string trio and harp entitled ‘Quintet for Flute, Harp and Strings’. And such an intoxicating expression of joy in tunes is equally rare. Jean Cras’ music was deeply influenced by the Mediterranean environment, the culture of the Southern European regions and the heritage of the Antiquity.

According to music encyclopaedias, the cajón is the only instrument that the musician plays while sitting on top of it. This South American instrument has probably never been played before an audience at Ernő Dohnányi Music Centre.

Musician Franz Anton Hoffmeister is an equally interesting musician and is also worthy of discovery. He was an incredibly prolific composer, and his ‘Quintet for Horn and Strings’ is an excellent opportunity to marvel at his compositional skills.

Let it be a surprise for our audience which musical piece will feature a musician sitting on their own instrument.
