Founded in 1967 to perform great classical pieces, the Israel Ballet, which is now led by Lea Lavie Fishbein, is considered one of the world’s leading companies. They are the only company in Israel to keep classical choreographies, like those of George Balanchine, on their repertoire. At their Budapest performance, they present a revived version of a choreography by Lev Ivanov (1834–1901), a great figure of dance history.
White Swan is a special journey through the history of the art, from the classic age to contemporary dance. In the first part, the second act of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, one of the most popular classical ballets, is presented, with Lev Ivanov’s choreography, while in the second part, the world-famous Greek choreographer, Andonis Foniadakis counterpoints the original ballet as he explores the dark recesses of the story in a work based on the Swan Lake suite.
Dance performance in one act.
